Who Qualifies For Medicare
- People who are turning age 65
- People under age 65 with certain disabilities
- People of any age with end-stage renal disease
- Other people who meet certain qualifications
- People over the age of 65 whose employer or group sponsored insurance have ended
- People with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease)
When do I enroll for Medicare?
Medicare Annual Enrollment Period
You may choose or change a Part C Medicare Advantage plan or a Part D prescription drugs plan during this time1.

These choices take effect on January 1 of the upcoming year.
Medicare Special Enrollment Period
If you meet one of these requirements you may choose Part C or Part D plan any time of the year.
- When you first become eligible for Medicare
- If you are on both Medicare and Medicaid
- If your current plan is terminated
- If you move to a community not served by your current plan
Medicare Open Enrollment Period
January 1-March 31
So it turns out your health plan isn’t working out for you…no problem! From January 1 through March 31 each year, you may choose a different Part C Medicare Advantage Plan or Part D prescription drug plan if your current plan is not meeting your healthcare needs. You can choose a new Medicare Advantage plan, with or without drug coverage, or disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare only (Parts A and B).
