What is the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan?
Beginning January 1, 2025, eligible members with Medicare Advantage plans that cover prescription drugs or a stand-alone Part D drug plan can use the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan to spread out the out-of-pocket costs of their covered Part D drugs into monthly payments.
How does it work?
Instead of paying up front for your drugs at the pharmacy, the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan allows us to split the cost share of your drugs over the plan year and bill you in more manageable monthly payments. All covered Part D drugs on your plan’s formulary are eligible, and there’s no cost to participate in this voluntary program. Keep in mind that this program isn’t a drug discount or money savings plan, and it does not reduce your overall out-of-pocket costs.
Is this program right for me?
The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is a good choice if you have high drug costs early in the year, allowing you to spread these expenses into monthly payments. But if your drug costs are low, consistent, or you prefer paying at the pharmacy, this program might not be a good choice for you.
Additionally, if you receive Extra Help from Medicare, a Medicare Savings Program, or assistance from other organizations like a State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP), a coupon program, or other health coverage, this payment plan may not benefit you.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) offers an online questionnaire to help determine if this program will help you.
